The MMI is located near the Grace A. Dow Library and the MCFTA.
The MMI (Michigan Molecular Institute), located on West St. Andrews St. is an independent, not-for-profit research and educational organization that conducts both basic and applied research in polymer science and technology. The MMI building itself contains 35,000 square feet of laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment. This equipment allows the staff to research both chemical and physical research. The MMI is

"Dedicated to advanced education, research, development and commercialization in Polymer Science and Technology."

The MMI has one of the most extensive libraries of polymer collections in the world.

Some of the recent research projects that the MMI has been working on include researching Polymeric Coatings. The group carries out research directed toward the development and understanding of new coating systems, with the emphasis being placed on water-based systems that emit little or no air pollution.

The Plastics Technology research group deals with discovering new polymer technologies which have the potential to become for-profit businesses. They also perform research projects for commercial sponsors. Another research activity deals with dendrimers, a type of dense polymer.

In 1994, Dr. Nowak joined MMI as President and C.E.O. He began his career as a research chemist at The Dow Chemical and holds a variety of United States and foreign patents.
